So much mental illness positivity is recovery minded and that’s all good and fine for people who can recover but where’s the positivity for those of us who’ll be sick for the rest of our lives? Where are we supposed to go for encouragement and support when “it gets better” and “you will recover” don’t apply to us?

recovery means different things to different people tbh of course we’re not gonna have our disorders cured but there are always steps we can take and ways in which we can improve our quality of life imo and having a defeatist “it’ll never get better” attitude doesnt really help its actually quite harmful. “better” is relative and there are different degrees to it so again “getting better” is gonna look different for everyone

Important addition. It can be hard to see past a lifetime diagnosis and look at the opportunities for alleviating and controlling symptoms and the fact that you can learn to live with and manage your mental illness, and I needed the reminder that this IS possible to get a good life with a diagnosis like schizophrenia. Thank you ❤
